Description Ingredients

There are two forms of resveratrol - Trans Resveratrol and Cis Resveratrol. While both are beneficial, Trans resveratrol is the most biologically active and the most effective. This supplement contains 300mg of Trans Resveratrol. A typical glass of red wine, contains around 1mg of Resveratrol. Each single capsule of Healthy Origins' Resveratrol Maximum Potency, has the same amount of Resveratrol as would be found in 300 glasses of Red Wine! Resveratrol is created by plants and utilised as a defence against stress, infection, toxins, bacteria and other environmental factors which could harm the plant. Studies are confirming that these benefits are conferred to animals and humans. Resveratrol is found in the skin of grape, in plants such as the Giant Knotweed and is the ingredient in red wine, best known to confer health benefits.

Antioxidant - Resveratrol is a very powerful antioxidant which prevents free radicals from damaging our cells and organs. Oxidative stress is thought to be a leading factor in the development of heart disease and neurodegenerative diseases.

Anti ageing - Studies at Harvard medical school have shown that resveratrol activates the longevity gene in yeast resulting in a 70 percent extended lifespan! In 2006 – resveratrol was shown to negate the negative effects of a calorie rich diet on mice. Resveratrol mice not only lived longer buy suffered less from diabetes, and retained good motor skills in spite of old age. This benefit of resveratrol would go a long way in explaining the French Paradox of which it is now thought resveratrol is a key player. The French paradox is the name given over to the fact that despite eating three times more saturated fats than the American diet, the French have low obesity and low death rates due to cardiovascular problems. The French consume a lot of resveratrol through the red wine they drink.

In addition to these benefits, Resveratrol activates the SIRT1 longevity gene which actually slows down the ageing process.

Cardiovascular - This brings us onto the next benefit of resveratrol which is its ability to enhance cardiovascular health. It appears that resveratrol reduces LDL (bad) cholesterol. Not only this, but it also prevents plaque from oxidised cholesterol building up in the arteries.

Anti Cancer - In the laboratory, resveratrol has been demonstrated to be very effective at killing cancer cells, doing so by destroying the cells mitochondria (energy source)
